Meditation upon reading the Sermon on the Mount

Jesus – Our Teacher

I sit at Your feet, expectant to hear You. I am sitting among the disciples on the hillside overlooking the Sea of Galilee. It is beautiful and I can’t believe I am here with You...that You would take the time to share with me Your insight...Your truth. That You would help me. That You wouldn’t just leave me alone to figure things out but would be intentional to share with me what my life will look like as I follow You and receive Your grace and the help of Your Spirit.

I see Your teacher’s heart. A heart that seeks not to hoard a gift to self but to offer it to others that they might benefit as well. SHARING. Common participation in Your truth. Every person receiving an opportunity to put their hands in the pot to scoop out an overflowing measure.

I’m hungry to receive. I see You look at me...inviting me to gather closer. Welcoming me with gentle tenderness. WANTING me to know all that You will tell me. THANK YOU JESUS. You are beautiful in the intent of Your heart. A desire to bring me into Your fold. To share with me the secrets of life with You. Not secrets as those that are kept from others but secrets that are freely offered to all who would respond to Your invitation to learn from You.

I hear You speaking with authoritative confidence. Equal with Your Father, You are well qualified to teach. You KNOW His heart and mind.

You have left Your Spirit here to teach me every day because You wouldn’t be physically present for me to follow as Your disciples did. And in Your understanding of human limitations to space and time, You knew that leaving the Holy Spirit would be best -- every single follower being able to be taught daily in the space and time that they occupy around the world. Ahhh...the wisdom of YOU!
